Domain Name Branding Tips

Pre-fix a common word with 1- to make it look like a phone number so that it will appeal to mobile users. When we registered most of our domains, lots were still available. Don't miss out...

Numbers That Work and 1-Dash Domains

Best example:
    1-Pizza.com
    1-Pizza.mobi
    1-74992.com
    1-74992.mobi
   (74992 spells Pizza on a phone keypad)

    The 1- mimics a phone number so it’s a great memory trigger for people using a phone to connect to the web.

Suppose
you are planning a website. You already know what it will be about and
now what? Yeah, you need to name it. And that’s where you first get
into trouble. You might want your site name to contain your main keyword
and most obviously you find that all the hot catchy names are already
taken. So what to do? Here are some helpful tips and resources:

1. Use already branded ideas (one of my favorites):

seomoz.com (Dmoz.com)
porntube.com (Youtube.com)

The obvious advantage of this approach lies in adding a fixed
positive association to your domain name. Consider this, everyone knows
and trusts Dmoz and thus by adding -moz to your domain name you get people to trust your new website.

2. Make up new words by adding suffixes:

2.1. Add -ster (very popular): catster.com, dogster.com, friendster.com
2.2. Add a verb forming suffix -ize/-ise: fashionising.com, colourize.com
2.3. Add Latin adjectival suffix -cus: eventicus.com
2.4. Use adjective suffixes
-matic: podomatic.com (podcasts)
-ful: eventful.com
-able: fundable.com

3. An advanced version of the above two: take a well known website name, add your keyword and add a suffix - gamediggity.com

1-Dash Domain Owners May Strike Gold

If they realize that the domains they own look like phone numbers and follow our 1-Dash Naming convention of a common word, beginning with a one and a hyphen (1-)

Because current owners of domains that look like phone numbers were probably registering common words to use as parked domains or PPC (pay per click) to generate revenue, they may or may not have realized the domains could have marketing value to mobile users.

Domain appraisers are either oblivious to the notion that criteria can change or have their collective heads buried in the sand.

If it looks like a phone number and walks like a domain, it Quacks, "Mobile, Mobile, Mobile!!"

Our research and analysis includes a possible future where 1-Dash dot mobi domains may be worth more in the domain after-market than their 1-Dash dot com cousins because dot com may remain a  'desk-bound' user phenomena and society is moving to mobility.

A 1-Dash Domain and the Quickorder app would keep everyone hooked on Starbucks

A 1-Dash Domain is memorable by anyone on a phone (mobile or desk-bound) because of the built in memory key, "A 1-Dash Domain looks like a phone number." So, no shortcut or bookmark is needed.

Our take is that any coffee house would benefit from 1-Dash or 1-Dial Domains like:

You're already well aware that Apple and Starbucks are buddy-buddy on at least some level, but this application would really cement their friendship. Quickorder, as you can probably imagine, would enable iPod touch users to swing by their local Starbucks, order up their favorite drink and avoid a good deal of that always questionable human interaction. Granted, what you're peering at above is still a mockup for now, but it's brimming with potential, no? Hit up the read link for lots more pics.

Any Realtor would be jealous because if it quacks Mobile, Mobile, Mobile it's the best location, location, location on the internet.
